Choose a theme

So to start with, you have to choose a theme for your feed. Ask yourself what kind of photos you’re going to post. Am I, for example, posting only nature-themed photos, outfit photos, or only Interior photos? Choose one or two subjects and stick to it consistently! Don’t post random photos of animals if your feed is about fashion. It will ruin your feed’s rhythm and esthetic completely! And you wouldn’t want that to happen right?

The same goes for the colors. You need to think about which colors on your feed you would like to stand out. I would choose a maximum of three colors. Then you should decide if you want to use bright photos or dark photos. For my feed, I choose to only post bright photos. I actually never take photos in the dark.

Editing your photos the same way

A lot of people use filters to edit their photos. I don’t. I edit every photo individually. I feel like when I use filters I don’t get the best out of it. That’s why I decided to not stick to one filter, but to play with all the editing tools until I’m 100% satisfied with a photo.

I do match the colors of a photo with other photos on my feed, using the same level of pink or blue in all my pictures for example. For me, this is a practical way to stick to one color scheme. But other than the colors I edit all my photos separately. You can use filters if that’s what you prefer. It does, in fact, make editing a lot easier and quicker. But to make your photos stand out, try to experiment yourself before using filters.

Use a planning app

I’ve been using the UNUM app for the last couple of years. With Unum, you can plan your feed layout before posting it on Instagram. I usually upload a bunch of photos to the UNUM app and then I move the photos around until I’m satisfied with the order in which they are and then they’re ready for posting. So whenever you want to post something you just go to this app to see which of your photos you can post this time. This saves you a lot of time!

Choose your grid layout

So before posting your photos, you should think about the grid of your feed. For my feed, I choose to post one photo with myself in it and one photo without me and continuing this way. As you can see in the photo above it creates a nice and cohesive effect. Others, for example, choose to post one picture followed by a quote. It’s very pleasing for the eyes to create a pretty grid. It keeps your followers on your page. Check for yourself what you prefer. There are endless ways on how to create a beautiful grid layout to your preferences.
